Counterpart vs blablabla: two rehearsal apps, two philosophies

Counterpart: Prepare. Perform. is ambitious. It tries to be a memorization tool, an analytics dashboard, an AI-voiced scene partner, and a browser-based recording portal for your reader friends, all in one app. Built by Alexander Finch, it ships across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision, and Apple Watch.

blablabla does less on purpose. It picks one thing, the scene rehearsal, and tries to do that one thing very well. If you are picking between them, the question is whether you want a toolkit or a tool.

What Counterpart does

Counterpart supports three reader modes. You can record the other parts yourself. You can have a friend record them by sending them a browser link (they do not need the app). Or you can use the built-in AI text-to-speech voices.

On top of the scene rehearsal, it generates flashcards automatically from your scripts and tracks your practice in an analytics dashboard. Voice recognition advances the scene when you deliver your lines.

What blablabla does

blablabla does not do flashcards. It does not do analytics dashboards. It does not do browser-based recording for friends.

What it does is scene rehearsal with four modes: Listen, Read, Practice, Perform. Each character gets a distinct premium voice. On-device speech detection advances the scene when you finish your line. The rehearsal works fully offline once the audio is cached. It supports 74 languages with automatic detection and per-language recognizer locales.

The Golden Rule of blablabla is that the app never cuts the actor off. It only speaks the lines on the page. No coaching, no extra text. It waits as long as you need.
